River flows under climate change for River Managers Professional Development Programme
This seminar was presented to the River Managers’ Professional Development Programme: Resilient Rivers in March 2024. The seminar aims to provide an overview of the assumptions, methods, limitations and regional scale finding results associated with the Deep South’s Climate Change impacts project. This project coupled the IPCC 5th climate projection ensemble for New Zealand (Ministry for environment 2018) with an a-priori parametrised hydrological model across New Zealand.
As part of the seminar, Christian uses case studies to illustrate some of the challenges associated with the use and interpretation of those datasets to inform water resource and hydrological extreme investigations. The lessons from this project are used to inform method development associated with the use of the IPCC 6th climate projections for New Zealand to be released in June 2024.
