Combined art and science as a communication pathway in a primary school setting: Paper and ice

A combination of art and science was used in a project to communicate science to primary school students, with the aim of enhancing awareness of the science behind understanding the global climate system. A stand-alone contemporary art work was produced that was then the focal point of a community-based promotion of the science and creativity involved.
A range of qualitative evaluation elements suggest that the approach did improve student engagement with the scientific approach and reduced the student’s uncertainty about “what science is”.
